Providing regular care to people living with dis­abilities is a challenge spanning all fields of healthcare. It is, perhaps, fair to say that the intent to provide care is often not matched by the ability to do so, and that some of this mismatch stems from a lack of under­standing of the environment and ensuing energy needed to accommodate the unique needs of people living with disabilities. Best Practices for Transitioning for Patients Who Live with Disabilities

Establishing and maintaining a sustainable dental home for people with disabilities is perhaps one of the more challenging issues across their life span.   An important part of transitioning a patient from one office to another is assessment of readi­ness and preparing a person to move to the next stage. It is the responsibility of the current care provider to forward as much information as pos­sible to the next treating provider. This article by Drs. Stainless steel crowns for young permanent posterior teeth – An overview of literature and a case report

Stainless steel crowns or pre-formed metal crowns have become the standard for the restoration of primary teeth with extensive caries; however, they remain underutilized on permanent teeth.

This pediatric dentistry article, written by Drs. Reza Nouri and Sharat Pani, Certified Pediatric Dentistry Specialists and members of CSDH, was originally published in oralhealth magazine in January 2025. It highlights:

  • The use of Stainless-Steel Crowns (SSC’s) in permanent teeth as an alternative to traditional approaches of using gold, ceramic fused to metal, or fully ceramic crowns.

  • The use of Indirect Pulp Therapy (IPT) in young permanent teeth

  • The use of Interim Therapeutic Restorations (ITR)
